One
of my coolest artist instrument is my first for Chafin Custom.
I got an interesting phone call one day from Jessie James Dupree
of Jackyl fame. Jessie's trademark had long been a chainsaw and
that was an integral part of his act for many years. Jessie is
also a great guitar player and he wanted to bring these two things
together.
So Jessie called and said that he wanted a guitar with a built-in
chainsaw. I thought that it sounded pretty cool. Then Jessie told
me that several of the major brands so-called custom shops had
considered the project and said they couldn't or wouldn't do it.
I like a challenge so I said OK.
Then Jessie told me all that he needed including needing it in
under a month for a tour. Having something with the weight and
vibration of a chainsaw presents some unique challenges on a guitar.
It took some work and creativity but within the allotted time
we came up with a guitar that played and sounded great!
